The school has approximately 835 pupils and is divided into four sections, each located in its own building. Up to the age of nine, boys are mainly taught by their class teacher while from nine onwards staff teach their specialist subjects and also take care of a form for pastoral matters.
Following a major building programme, the school can be proud of its excellent facilities which include two well equipped computer suites, three large, modern science laboratories, a spacious art studio, a design technology workshop, a studio theatre and a large music school. All academic subjects are taught in modern, spacious classrooms and there are well-stocked libraries in each section of the school.
DCPS has a 25 metre indoor heated swimming pool and a new sports hall, opened in 2006. The nursery also moved into brand new buildings in 2006. There are spacious playing fields within a few minutes walk of the main school site, the major games played being rugby, football, cricket and athletics. A wide range of other activities and clubs are available and many boys take advantage of these opportunities to enrich their education.
From an early age, pupils are encouraged to set themselves good standards in their work and high academic results follow. Boys move on to a wide variety of senior schools, including Dulwich College, Westminster, Winchester, Eton, Harrow, King’s Canterbury and Tonbridge. Over thirty boys win scholarships to senior schools each year, including a significant number in music and art.
Entry is mainly at three, four, five, seven and eight, although occasionally vacancies occur at other ages. All applicants are interviewed before a firm offer of a place is made. Several bursaries are awarded annually to boys aged seven and eight who reach the required standard but who otherwise, for financial reasons, would be unable to come to the school. Weekly boarding is offered to boys from eight years of age.
Dulwich College Preparatory School Trust is a registered charity which was established to provide for the advancement of education of children in the UK and elsewhere.
