Northwood College is an academic school for girls with two very special features at its heart: our unique Thinking Skills Programme enables girls to develop independent and creative thinking that takes them far beyond an exam curriculum. Our unrivalled pastoral care, meanwhile, rests on the premise that a happy girl will always achieve her best. In this way we have created a school that buzzes with life, in which girls achieve outstanding exam results.
Curriculum and Results
Girls study all national curriculum subjects plus Latin, Classics and Drama. They take two modern languages from Year 7. Sciences are taught as separate subjects. The Thinking Skills Programme is integrated throughout helping girls to develop techniques and habits of mind that they will use for the rest of their lives.
For the past five years our A Level pass rate has been 100%, with nearly 83% at A & B grades in 2007. At GCSE our pass rate was 99.4%. More than three quarters of our girls achieve more than 5 A or A* grades and individual pupils regularly feature in top ten lists nationally for exam results.
Pupil Wellbeing
We take the challenge of turning out happy, confident and generous young women very seriously. Excellent support systems ensure that girls always know where to turn if they have a problem. The idea of taking responsibility for yourself and your community is actively nurtured and blossoms in the many social and charitable activities the girls take part in.
Location and Facilities
Our school is set in beautiful green grounds in Northwood, close to the Metropolitan Line station. Fabulous facilities include eight Science Labs, five IT Rooms, three Art Studios, Food Technology and Design Technology Rooms, a large Sports Hall, Fitness Suite, 25-metre Indoor Swimming Pool and a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre, which the girls love.
Our spectacular library is one of the learning hubs of the College, where our passionate, full-time Chartered Librarian runs Book Clubs, arranges talks by well-known authors and inspires the girls with a love of reading.
All sections of the school, Nursery, Infants, Junior, Senior and Sixth Form, share the same 14 acre site. A gorgeous new Early Years Centre for our Nursery and Reception girls was completed in April 2009.
Partnership School
We have a partnership with The John Lyon School for boys in Harrow. Through joint activities, such as pastoral sessions, conferences and expeditions, as well as numerous social events our girls have the opportunity to mix with boys in a way that complements their single-sex school environment.
