Founded in 1642 Latymer Upper School lies between King Street and the Thames. It is a Day School for 1,000 pupils - boys and girls aged 11-18 (there is also Latymer Prep School for boys and girls between 7-11). The Sixth Form of 340 is one of the largest in London and offers a free choice of 35 academic courses as well as extra curricular activities and opportunities.

Latymer is a co-educational school. Girls as well as boys were admitted from September 2003 at 7+, 8+ (to the Latymer Prep School) and at 11+ from September 2004 (the Upper School). The Sixth Form has been co-educational since 1996.

The School lays great emphasis on its pastoral system, and typical form sizes are around 20. It is known as an academically rigorous as well as a welcoming and tolerant community, which reflects London's social and ethnic mix. Music and drama are very strong with frequent concerts and productions, and a £4 million Arts Centre opened January 2000. Pupils also regularly achieve distinction in a range of sports, such as soccer, rugby, netball, and boats (the boathouse is in the School grounds) playing at county and national level. A new £4.5 million sports facility and changing rooms opened in September 2004. A new state of the art Latymer Performing Arts Centre was opened recently, housing a new music school, recitall hall and dance/drama studio. Work started this year on a brand new science building, and a library/resource centre.

Academic results are excellent with two out of three A level pupils gaining AAB or better and at least one in ten going on to Oxbridge. University and Career guidance are stressed and there is a strong emphasis on international awareness with a scheme for job shadowing in Paris and Berlin, as well as language exchanges for younger pupils.

The School offers scholarships (academic, music, art, drama, sport), and Foundation Places to provide opportunity for pupils regardless of background. For further details please see the website - latymer-upper.org

Alumni - Latymer Upper School is proud of its pupils’ successes and their subsequent career achievements. Many are successful academics, politicians, diplomats, businessmen or industrialists. They include Government Ministers, England Rugby hero Dan Luger, and screen stars Mel Smith, Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant.

Current pupils benefit greatly from the contacts that are maintained between the School and former pupils. Many contribute their expertise on careers advice, work experience placements, and speak on topical issues.

The Latymerian Association has a sports ground at Whitton. Together with the School's dedicated Latymerian Office it organises socials, reunions, and a variety of sports events. Maintaining links with old school friends, keeping up with school news and being able to network are other benefits of this close liaison.
