Dean Close School is a co-educational day and boarding school, established in 1886 which provides continuity of education from age 2+ to 18. The school is set in 50 acres of parkland with outstanding facilities including 2 floodlit astro-pitches, a purpose-built theatre, an amphi-theatre, a 25m indoor swimming pool with diving boards, squash courts, a climbing wall, a sports centre with well equipped gym and large dance studio and a school chapel.
From age 7 -13 children are educated in the Prep School, which currently has 290 pupils. At the Preparatory School through a combination of encouragement, stimulation and inspiration children are helped to realise their potential and learn what it means to be part of a community. They are also taught to celebrate success and handle failure, and to look beyond their personal needs to the needs of others.
The small classes and excellent facilities at the Prep School ensure good above average academic results. A strong tradition of music, art, sport and drama and a wide spectrum of extra curricular activities make it possible for every child to achieve success and confidence. The school also offers academic, sports, music and all-rounder scholarships to boys and girls at age 11 and 13. For boys who enjoy singing there is also the opportunity to become a Tewkesbury Abbey Chorister, a training that benefits a child for the rest of their lives. The school offers chorister scholarships to boys from age 7 – 11.
The Christian family atmosphere is at the heart of the school and whilst we aim for high standards in academic work we also strive to develop the spiritual and moral values of those in our care through seeking and celebrating that which is good in all members of our community
