Beech Tree provides education, long and short term care for children whose learning disabilities are compounded by severe forms of challenging behaviour. Beech Tree also provides comprehensive training packages to support the needs of this especially complex group of young people.
Children with epilepsy, sensory or physical disabilities are welcome - as are those with syndromes which may be associated with challenging behaviour. Many of the young people placed at Beech Tree are Autistic.
While all children have access to the National Curriculum emphasis is also placed upon developing strategies to enable the young people to self manage their behaviour. This is achieved by providing a safe, friendly and supportive environment; the careful assessment of the functions of each child's challenging behaviour; and the consistent use of educational and inclusive learning programmes by all staff, across all settings, twenty-four hours per day.
The programme at Beech Tree has had untold benefits for many of the young people placed there. Many have moved onto less specialised establishments and other examples include accessing college courses, work placements and reintegration into maintained educational settings.
