Bolton School Girls' Division is a selective independent day school. It is a centre of excellence offering outstanding teaching and facilities. Our very broad curriculum enables pupils to enjoy a wide range of choices to foster individual talent. Results at GCSE and Advanced level place us among the top independent schools in the country.
The school shares its attractive 32 acre site with the Boys' Division and the Infant Department, the Girls' Junior School having its own accommodation partly within the main building. In 1913 the first Viscount Leverhulme endowed the High School for Girls and the Bolton Grammar School for Boys on condition that the two should be equal partners. As a result, the pupils of both schools enjoy an increasing number of joint activities often in shared facilities, such as the Arts and Conference Centre, swimming pool and sports hall, while benefiting from all the advantages of single sex education.
Other facilities in the Girls' Division include an impressive Great Hall, art studios, technology suite, theatre, seven laboratories and specialist teaching rooms. The ICT facilities extend across three computer rooms. The Lower School has a separate resource area containing PCs. The two libraries are staffed by a chartered librarian and her assistant. Besides having access to an impressive stock of books, pupils may use computers and CD Roms.
Over 200 Sixth Formers, including a significant number of entrants at 16+, have their own common room and private study areas. Our award-winning Careers Department offers access to all the latest information and extensive opportunities for work experience and workshadowing. Most students (95%) go on to degree courses (10%-15% to Oxford and Cambridge).
With superb outdoor pursuits facilities in the Lake District and excellent provision for sport, music and drama, the school is committed to offering a broad and dynamic education to bright, well motivated students.
Open Morning is in October, followed by the Entrance Examination in January. A number of Governors' Foundation Grants and other bursaries are available. Details may be obtained from the Admissions Secretary.
Alumni - The School has a very active Old Girls' Association. There is a varied programme of social events, including an annual lunch. The Association produces a newsletter once a year, and a number of charities benefit from fund-raising events. Individual members regularly organise year reunions. All leavers automatically become members of the Association. School contact: Mrs Carol Haslam Tel: 01204 840201 email: info@girls.bolton.sch.uk
