Cotswold Chine School is a residential special needs school for young people with a range of learning, emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. The school aims to provide access to the whole National Curriculum adapted from the principles and teaching methods of Rudolf Steiner. This approach to education focuses on the individual needs of each young person and succeeds in formulating appropriate individually targeted strategies to help them develop emotionally, socially, spiritually and academically, in order to successfully make the transition from school to adult life.
Admissions: 9-18 years for boys and girls. Entry procedure includes interview and one-week assessment period. Subjects include English, Maths, Science, Design and Technology, ICT, Modern languages, Geography, History, Music, PE, Art, Drama, Child Care, Citizenship and PSHE. In-house Therapies: In addition to the therapeutic community offered at Cotswold Chine the following specific therapies are available: Eurhythmy therapy (a form of movement therapy), Psychodynamic and Anthroposophical (Developed by Rudolf Steiner) Art therapy and Speech and Language therapy
Examinations: Entry Level Certificate (AQA and OCR), AQA Preparation for Working Life Examination and GCSE (AQA and OCR). The School encourages all students to follow courses in externally accredited qualifications and endeavours to provide courses according to the needs and choices of individual students. In 2003, 8 students were entered for GCSE and 31 A - G grades were achieved.
Academic facilities include: well stocked libraries, advanced ICT facilities including a computer for the individual use of all students (where appropriate), well equipped Food Technology workshop, and pottery facilities. The school operates a scheme to enable students to have a computer in their bedroom. Other facilities include extensive landscaped gardens overlooking the South Cotswolds. The School is also situated on the edge of a large common.
The school had a very successful OFSTED inspection in June 2006, the inspectors reported that the school had achieved 19 categories at level 1 (outstanding) and one category at level 2 (good).
