A Word from the Head

Berkhampstead is an independent day school for boys and girls aged from 3 - 11. The Headmaster is a member of IAPS.

For nearly 60 years, it has given its pupils a tremendous start to their education.

The school has a caring family atmosphere and a Christian ethos. Children are prepared for a variety of Senior Schools and our record in this respect is excellent. Through the guidance of experienced teachers with a genuine concern for the well-being of each child, we encourage the growth of self confidence and the development of character and personality.

We aim to offer a broad curriculum with a central core of English, Maths and Science. The children are mainly taught by class teachers with a gradual movement towards specialist teaching which experience has shown to be beneficial. From age 3, children are taught French, Music and PE by specialist teachers.

Many relevant educational trips are organised so that the classroom teaching is supported by a great deal of first hand experience.

In all our endeavours, we expect to exceed the demands of the National Curriculum.

Great emphasis is placed upon the use and enjoyment of books, and the school has two comprehensively stocked libraries. There are two science laboratories, two gymnasia, two art rooms, a separate computer suite and excellent music facilities. We have access to nearby sports fields, astro pitches, athletic grounds and swimming pools. Many opportunities exist for participation in musical and dramatic productions, from the Nursery to Year 6. Opportunities abound to learn a wide variety of instruments and to play in small groups and larger orchestras. There are several choirs.

A wide range of extra-curricular clubs and social outings add to the life of the school.

School lunches are prepared on the premises daily and special diets are catered for. The family lunch is considered to be an important part of the children's education.

There is an active Parents' Association to strengthen the links between parents and the School.

Recent inspections have highlighted the excellent results achieved by our pupils in academic subjects as well as in music, art, drama and sport.
