Whatever your child’s ability, Blue Coat offers first-rate opportunities to girls and boys aged 2-11. Set in 15 acres of grounds just two miles from the city centre, this co-educational day school is easily accessed by road and rail.
PASTORAL CARE
We work hard to create a caring and exciting environment in which children thrive. House Heads and Tutors are responsible for all children, allowing continuity of care between School and House. Creative, energetic staff, an extensive programme of activities, and stunningly refurbished facilities ensure that the children have plenty to enjoy.
ACADEMIC
All children follow a broad programme of study that we call 'National Curriculum Plus'. Specialist teaching and small classes ensure excellent performances in Key Stage 2 and in entrance and scholarship exams to local independent and maintained grammar schools. The music department is especially strong, offering extensive instrumental tuition, numerous ensembles, a robed Chapel Choir, and links with Birmingham Conservatoire. The new Music School under development offers even more creative opportunities. First-class coaching is provided in all major sports, and in others like judo and basketball.
Academic and Music Scholarships are available to children aged 7+. A number of bursaries or Foundation Awards may be awarded to able children aged 7+ with a demonstrable financial need.
FACILITIES
Our children benefit from the warm, family atmosphere of the school's four Houses. There are modern science laboratories, a superb art room and library, technology and ICT rooms, and a cross-campus network of state-of-the-art computers. The magnificent sports centre, comprising 25-metre swimming pool and hall for sixteen indoor sports, forms a further valuable resource. A Steinway Concert Grand offers first-rate opportunities to budding pianists, whilst Sibelius software is used in the teaching of composition.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Over 50 clubs and activities operate each week. Ballet or Basketball, Sign Language or Speech Training, Mandarin or Hands-on-Science: Blue Coat has something for everyone!
Alumni - The Blue Coat Old Scholars' Association exists to link together all former pupils of the school and to promote their friendships. An annual newsletter and school magazine are mailed to members around the globe and reunions are arranged for different age groups. Former pupils retain strong loyalties to the school itself: several have been married in the School Chapel and are now sending their own children to the school.
