King Henry VIII is a school of a high academic standing, but sound and balanced education cannot be judged on scholarship alone. The development of character and personality is of equal importance. The School provides a friendly, well-disciplined environment. Each pupil can develop his or her talents, not only academically but also through the wide range of cultural, sporting and creative opportunities offered. ‘Success, enjoyment, responsibility’ – these are our prime aims.
The curriculum is broad and balanced, integrating the principles and practices of the National Curriculum where appropriate. Non-denominational Religious Education, Personal and Social Development and Careers Education are offered to all. In the Sixth Form students follow a continually developing Complementary Studies programme. Advanced level arrangements are flexible but the most common pattern is for a student to take four subjects to AS-level and to continue with three of these to A2-level.
GCSE examination results are outstandingly good, with an ABC pass rate of 100%. Over 70% of passes are at grade A* or A. The School has a large Sixth Form and prepares candidates for A-level and for Oxbridge entry. The A-level pass rate is 100%, with over 80% of passes at grades A or B.
The School is well-equipped materially, including new laboratories, Language suite, Art and Design facility, Sixth Form Centre and Prep School. The most recent additions have been the Sports Hall and Swimming Pool. The School’s greatest asset is its team of well-qualified, committed, enthusiastic and caring teachers who ensure continuity and stability. Extra-curricular activities are numerous, with music, drama, sport, exchanges with schools abroad and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award being particularly strong. The School has its own bus services to surrounding districts and is very close to Coventry railway station.
Prospective parents, their sons and daughters are always welcome to visit the School by arrangement with the Headmaster's Personal Assistant.
The School is a registered Charity (Coventry School Foundation, Registered Charity No 528961) which exists to provide quality education for girls and boys.
