A Word from the Head

Hazlegrove is a leading Independent boarding and day Preparatory School in the South West of England for 350 boys and girls aged 2½ - 13. The School is fortunate to have outstanding facilities and is set within 200 acres of parkland in Somerset with direct access to the A303. A purpose-built, self-contained pre-prep and nursery gives pupils the ideal start to their school careers.

Hazlegrove is a splash of colour in an increasingly grey and conforming world. It is a school that delights in children being children, it encourages individuality and it values determination, perseverance and passion.

We believe that there is an appropriate blend of opportunity and challenge at Hazlegrove. Children are encouraged to seek high standards in academic, creative, sporting and the many other areas of school life. At the same time, we think of ourselves as a family school and regard the happiness of the individual boy and girl, at whatever level of achievement, as vitally important to his or her personal progress.

Hazlegrove has a long established Christian Foundation. This is reflected in many aspects of school life, from the pattern of assemblies each morning to the pastoral care system. Recognition is given to the importance of co-operation between home and school. We believe that school should be an extension and reflection of a caring home, and a preparation for later life in which all must live and work together. Our attitude to discipline also recognises a need for blend and balance. Firm rules exist, but emphasis is also placed on developing personal responsibility and self-discipline as necessary requirements within a community which values honesty, integrity and initiative.
