From the Foundation Stage right through to preparation for Common Entrance examinations and Scholarships to a wide range of Senior Schools, each child at Arnold Lodge School is placed at the heart of teaching and learning. Small class sizes and strong pastoral care maximise the possibilities for our pupils to be happy and confident in all aspects of their school lives. Traditional values and a strong work ethic, combined with a principled framework for academic and social development, result in pupils focusing on learning and achievement across a broad curriculum.
Opportunities abound! Our scholars successfully obtain awards to major independent schools throughout the country. The curriculum is enhanced by pupils’ use of Information Technology, by residential and day field trips both abroad and in this country, by guest speakers, by participation in the performing arts and sports, as well as a range of extra curricular activities. Chess is of a particularly high standard, with pupils having the opportunity to participate in county and national tournaments.
The Academy of Dance and Drama has a strong tradition offering ballet, tap, modern and street dance lessons. Pupils are encouraged to join choirs, the orchestra, guitar bands, woodwind ensembles, drumming groups, and brass and string ensembles as well as take individual instrumental lessons. There are opportunities to perform before audiences both in school and in the community.
Association and Rugby football, hockey, cricket, netball, gymnastics, rounders, swimming, dance and athletics are supplemented by tennis, Tai Qwan Do and Judo after school. The teams have a thorough programme of fixtures throughout the year with other independent schools.
Pupils with special educational needs are provided with both support in the classroom and, where appropriate, with support, individually or in small groups, with a specialist teacher.
After school care, including tea, is available with an exciting range of after school clubs until 6.00pm. A programme of activities is provided for all school holidays and pupils have a wonderful time, engaged in sports, the arts, visiting speakers, workshops and visits to such activities as bowling, the cinema and theatre.
Parent participation is encouraged and the Friends of Arnold Lodge support the school in numerous ways including fund raising for certain projects. They also continue the philanthropic tradition of donating 50% of monies raised to charities.
