Wakefield Tutorial Preparatory School is a small family school, founded in 1937 and is now based in Morley town centre.
Our pupils range from 4 to 11 years of age. They are offered a balanced curriculum: stimulated and challenged by well qualified and experienced staff. We keep our classes small so that the children receive individual attention to suit their needs.
We help the children in our care to reach their full potential by offering a caring and secure environment. We also recognise the need to prepare our children to take their place in society and this is reflected in the pastoral care we offer. Developing the ‘whole person’ is at the heart of the school’s values and we seek to develop each child’s individuality. Our children are taught to respect others around them, themselves and the fabric of their community.
Our pupils are well prepared for their secondary education, whether in the private or state sector. Our record of success in entering children for entrance examinations to local Grammar Schools is excellent. In the last academic year every single pupil entered for entrance examinations passed to go on to the school of their choice, including scholarships in certain cases.
The children are coached in Performing Arts including Drama, Spoken English and Music. They take part in assemblies and school productions with the opportunity to perform to a wider external audience. This helps to stimulate self-confidence and self-esteem, which is very important in today’s world.
Another aspect of our commitment to developing self-confidence is our sports development programme, introduced to ensure that all our children have the opportunity to take part in team games and individual sports. In order to implement this programme we have formed links with Morley Rugby Football Club who have agreed to us using their ground for outside games. We also use the sports facilities at Scatcherd Sports Centre for weekly swimming sessions and when a larger indoor venue is required.
