Moorlands is the only independent co-educational school for children aged 2½ to 13 in Leeds. We are situated in and around a large Victorian house in North Leeds yet within easy access of the city centre, ring road and the motorway network.
Moorlands aims to develop every child’s full potential in a happy, caring and friendly environment. This is fostered by small class sizes and the professional skills of highly qualified staff, together with a strong pastoral and House system. Parental involvement is also encouraged.
Children are accepted at age 2½ for nursery and progress through the school for preparation to enter independent day and boarding schools, including local Grammar Schools, at 11 or 13.
School facilities include two science laboratories, a large sports hall, heated indoor swimming pool where children aged 4 upwards have programmed lessons, a well equipped library using latest computer systems, and specialist rooms for ICT, Music, Art, Design Technology and Languages. French is taught from age 7. A highly regarded support unit operates for pupils with mild to moderate learning difficulties as well as more able pupils. Pupils take part in school productions every year as well as local drama festivals. The majority of pupils learn a wide variety of musical instruments.
The extensive sports programme includes regular rugby, football, netball, hockey, cricket, swimming, cross country and athletics fixtures. Coaching in other sports, eg golf, fencing, climbing is arranged. Swimming lessons and competitions take place in the school’s own, superb, on-site 20m pool.
Moorlands is big enough to provide a modern educational experience of the highest calibre to all its pupils yet small enough so that each child is an individual and not just a name on the register.
It is a philosophy aimed at giving each and every child the best possible start, equipping them with the knowledge, appetite for learning, confidence and social awareness that will form the bedrock of their characters throughout their lives.
We are proud of our extended family and are delighted to welcome visitors.
