Richmond House School in Leeds has been educating boys and girls at its Otley Road site since 1935.
Expectations are high in all areas – academic, musical, sporting and the creative arts. But special emphasis is placed upon the happiness of the pupils and close contacts with parents.
Pupils are accepted from the age of three years into Nursery, where a team of staff, led by a qualified and experienced teacher, provides a programme of learning and play that prepares the children for entry into the main school.
From Reception, there are two parallel forms per year group. Classes are small, enabling staff to assess carefully the individual requirements of each child. The best of traditional and modern teaching methods are used to deliver a broad curriculum where the emphasis is placed firmly on the development of literacy and numeracy. Children are prepared for entry to senior schools at 11+ and the school is proud of its record of passes and scholarships.
Specialist teaching features prominently in the older age range, and high standards are achieved in music, art and design. An up-to-date computer suite with multimedia systems and interactive white boards in each teaching room prepare the pupils for today’s technological world.
There is an extensive programme of lunchtime and after school clubs, and a broad range of competitive sports fixtures to keep the children busy. There is provision for pre school care from 7.45am and after school care until 6.00pm.
There are specialist facilities for Art, Music, Science and Design Technology, a wildlife area with pond and a children’s adventure playground. A pavilion, tennis courts and seven acres of sports grounds at the rear of the school are a great asset.
The Headmistress, Jane Disley, says ‘Richmond House is a school where children are happy to learn. Our pupils achieve success through a broad curriculum, high expectations, specialist teaching, and caring individual attention from the staff.’
