Founded in 1960 Westville House School has grown enormously in the intervening years. There are now about 160 children in the school, with waiting lists for many of the classes. Westville House School is a member of the IAPS.
The school, which stands in beautiful countryside just to the north of Ilkley in West Yorkshire, has a happy, family atmosphere, with a strong sense of purpose. There are 15 well-qualified, experienced teachers who combine just the right blend of firmness and fun to bring out the best in the children.
Children join the Pre-Preparatory Department at the age of three, in our beautiful Early Years’ Unit, which offers a first-rate start for them in the Foundation Years. They join the Preparatory Department at the age of seven, when preparation begins in earnest for entry to senior schools. Westville House offers a broad, stimulating curriculum and has an excellent academic record with many awards gained annually. We also achieve enviable results in the national SAT tests where our performance has put us in the top 100 of the Sunday Times’ National Preparatory Schools’ League Table.
Sport is of vital importance in the life of Westville House and a variety of games is played regularly to a high standard. Westville House plays many fixtures against local schools and our minibus is in constant use taking children to and from matches against schools such as Ashville College, Bronte House, Aysgarth, Sedbergh Junior, Malsis and Bramcote. Our multi-purpose Hall was opened three years ago, providing state of the art facilities for sports; these include cricket nets, a netball court, badminton courts and 5-a-side football pitches, as well as spacious changing facilities.
Drama, Music and Art are also vital parts of school life and plays and concerts are performed regularly. A very high standard is achieved annually in the Guildhall Speech and Drama exams. All our visitors comment on the extremely high standard of art on display around the school.
There is a wide range of clubs and activities on offer both during and after the school day, including various Sports, Art, Chess Clubs and many others.
This can only be a thumbnail sketch of Westville House School and all its activities but serves to indicate what a vibrant and exciting place it is. Please feel free to arrange a visit in order to get to know the school better.
