Taunton School is a co-educational day and boarding school with pre-prep, preparatory and senior schools sharing the same campus and catering for pupils from 2 to 18 years. The school aims to prepare young people to `shape the world in the 21st century’, by endowing them with the skills and flexibility of mind necessary to meet the challenges of the modern and rapidly changing age into which they will progress after leaving school.
The great strength of Taunton School is the sense of community spirit which pervades all aspects of life at the school and which is underpinned by the exceptional quality of the relationships between staff and pupils and amongst the pupils themselves. This is always recognised and acknowledged by visitors to the school, including school inspectors. There is a well developed tutorial system which helps pupils to manage a personal development programme throughout their school career; it monitors carefully both academic and social progress in equal measure and provides encouragement and support as needed.
Academic results are excellent and the school regularly sends significant numbers of students to Oxbridge, with 95% of sixth formers going on to HE. The academic offering has been enhanced by the International Baccalaureate, which alongside A levels, acts as an effective pathway to university and the world beyond. Careers guidance forms an integral part of the curriculum and an extensive range of extra curricular activities is designed to cater for as many interests as possible; it is the school's view that finding something at which every pupil can achieve success is the key which unlocks the door to successes in other areas. The school has an outstanding reputation in games and especially in debating, public speaking, music and drama which all help to produce well rounded students with that spark of originality and individuality which will set them apart.
Situated on the edge of Somerset's thriving county town, on a campus of over 50 acres, Taunton School offers all the geographical and environmental advantages of being at the centre of the West Country. There is easy nation-wide rail and road access and for day pupils the school runs ten separate daily transport routes, using its own vehicles and drivers, so the school really is closer than you might think. The School's excellent sporting and function facilities are also available for hire by outside agencies when they are not required for school use.
