Netherwood School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for 179 pupils aged 3-18. It offers 12 GCSE courses plus as many A, AS and AVCE courses as students ask for.

Founded in 1947, Netherwood has a reputation as a friendly school with a happy, homely atmosphere, where pupils are encouraged to give of their best in all subjects and activities and to fulfil their potential. Within a framwork of security and firm, friendly discipline the individual is given freedom to develop his or her personality and to grow into a responsible person with a well-developed sense of service to the community.

The school stands in its own grounds in the Pembrokeshire National Park surrounded by beautiful wooded countryside and close to the sea. The Church of St. Issell's is adjacent to the School grounds, and Saundersfoot railway is less than half a mile from the School entrance.

The school aims at giving a sound and broad education up to university entry -
i) by helping each pupil to achieve academic standards of which represent the best that he or she is capable.
ii) maintaining small classes of 8 to 20 pupils with well-qualified and experienced members of staff.
iii) by making the work of all classes challenging and enjoyable.
iv) by developing the pupil's self-reliance and character.

At Netherwood discipline is based on courtesy, co-operation, helpfulness and common sense at all times. The School Rules and Expectations are clearly identified to all pupils, so that each child is fully aware of what is expected of him/her. Pupils are encouraged to be independent but at the same time they learn to live as members of a community.

The school is both progressive and successful, and has improved its academic status immensely over the last 8 years. In the summer of 1998 all of its pupils gained at least 5 A-C grades in their GCSE examinations, some gaining as many as 11 passes in one sitting and a high level of A-C grades have been well maintained since. This success rate of 100% elevated Netherwood to being JOINT TOP SCHOOL IN WALES FOR GCSE AND MADE IT UNBEATABLE IN THE REST OF THE UK.
