One of the most important features of the School is the smaller size of classes which enables members of staff to establish a close relationship with pupils and supervise their work as carefully as possible. Most children have a far better chance of developing their potential in the environment of a school where every pupil is known individually to the Headmaster and all the staff, and where the emphasis is on a caring, sympathetic approach.
The School has a 'traditional' approach to learning. Whereas we are always ready to take advantage of any new techniques which assist learning, we still tend to take a traditional attitude towards teaching, discipline and behaviour. Apart from academic work, work in speech and drama is particularly encouraged as is Music, Art and Sport.
Another important element in the School is the stability of the staff. The majority of the teachers have been at the School for many years and have built up a reputation for helping our pupils achieve their maximum academic potential.
The examination results of the School are well above the National average at both GCSE and 'A' levels.
There are excellent facilities for games and activities. Pupils in the junior forms are offered, in addition to all the normal sports, Canoeing, Dry Ski-ing, Horse-riding, Golf and Archery.
The School has its own extensive playing fields, and there is first-class provision for Information Technology.
