A Word from the Head

People ask what makes us proud of Wellington? Quite simply, it’s seeing the development of each student’s individual qualities, and the easy relationship and respect that exists between staff and pupils within the School. This, in turn, encourages the best to emerge.

2008 has been a memorable year across the board for students and staff at Wellington School. In academic terms, the students have excelled. At GCSE level, over a quarter of the year group achieved at least 9 A*/A grades while at A level, 47% of the papers merited an A grade, easily an all-time record for the school. Nearly all of this year’s Sixth Form leavers will be entering their first-choice university, pleased and proud that they have achieved the required grades to take their next step towards their future careers.

Following the completion of the £2.6m Princess Royal Sports Complex, the School’s outstanding facilities will be enhanced even further with the completion in early 2009 of the new English block and examination hall and the redevelopment of Performing Arts facilities.

In the midst of such change and high achievement, the fundamental aims and ethos of the 800 pupil school remain the same as they always have been; namely, that each and every boy and girl should be helped and encouraged to develop his or her own particular talents to the full. Traditional values of hard work, good behaviour and unpretentious manners are held in high esteem, complemented by the total commitment of the staff to the individual needs, personal welfare and happiness of every single child.

In the words of one of our current Upper Sixth Formers: ‘Wellington School has made a huge impact on my life and has given me so many new and interesting opportunities. The School’s ambitious attitudes towards success are reflected in each and every pupil.’
