At Bedford High School excellent standards are combined with courses which reflect the latest developments in education. The school occupies a central site in Bedford, where behind the traditional facade there is a modern centre of educational excellence. The school is easily accessible by road and rail, convenient for Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted Airports, a free courtesy bus being provided at the beginning and end of each term.
The Junior School, in its modern setting, provides the ideal foundation for life at the High School, offering a wide range of subjects in line with and beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum. As it is closely linked, both physically and academically with the Senior School, Junior School girls are able to progress happily and confidently to the next stage of their education. In addition to the fifteen subjects offered at GCSE, there are over 30 extra-curricular activities and more than twenty sport options. The school provides tuition in most orchestral instruments and there is a fine organ in the Main Hall. Students regularly participate with our brother school, Bedford, in a wide variety of activities including choral, orchestral and dramatic productions. Pastoral care, service to the community and the spiritual side of life are of importance to us, emphasis being on the balanced development of the individual. The school has a thriving Sixth Form where students can choose from our thirty AS level and A level subjects as well as the IB (International Baccalaureate). Throughout the school pupils are encouraged to make optimum use of the wide ranging industry standard IT facilities supporting many curricular areas.
Over 95 per cent of our students go on to higher education at Universities of their choice. Careers guidance begins at age thirteen years and the girls receive counselling throughout all the major, decision-making stages of their education. Boarding is available from the age of 7 and features houses meeting the very high standards rightly demanded by discerning parents.
Scholarships and Bursaries are available. For further details and prospectus ring Bedford (01234) 360221.
