Chilton Cantelo School offers a civilised, 'family' environment in which individuals are valued and in which they are encouraged to grow into the best versions of themselves.
Set in and around an imposing 18th Century manor house and 25 acres of grounds, four and a half miles from both Sherborne and Yeovil, Chilton offers a genuine all-round education designed to develop each pupil's potential. Classes are small, results at GCSE are exceptional – 100% 5-14 A*-C grades at GCSE in 2004 and 2005.
Entry may be at any age from 7-16. Admission is by interview (and in-house testing where appropriate) together with full consideration of recent reports.
The Preparatory Department is housed in the newly renovated Carriage House, with boarding facilities in the nearby former stable block 'Woodlands'. An integral part of the Senior (Middle and Upper) School it has its own dedicated staff and facilities and derives further benefit from sharing additional specialist staff and resources with the Senior School, to which pupils transfer at the age of 11. In the Preparatory Department, prep is completed during the school day.
A new boarding house ‘Riverside’, was opened for boys in Years 9 – 11 in 2005 and an Upper School girls’ boarding house is planned for construction.
In the Senior School a comprehensive range of academic subjects is followed (including four languages, Classics, Information Technology, CDT, PE and HE) and the broad academic curriculum is complemented by making full use of extramural activities, with pupils enjoying 'enrichment' activities including archery, computing, dance, fencing, horse riding, karate, kick-boxing, outdoor education, swimming, a variety of music and drama, woodcraft and a full range of team games. Fully integrated into the mainstream curriculum of the School is a small Learning Support Department.
At weekends, boarding pupils can choose from a range of activities and outings. Day Scholars have the option to board on an occasional (or regular night) basis. They may also join our outstanding Corps of Drums.
The main strength of the School, in addition to small teaching groups, impressive academic and sporting results and an extremely broad curriculum, is our experience and success at affording each pupil a great deal of individual attention.
The School operates daily transport to/from Weymouth and Dorchester.
A Prospectus may be obtained from the Admissions Secretary and prospective parents are strongly encouraged to visit the School.
