Welcome to Whitehall School: the school with traditional values and a 21st Century vision.
Whitehall School, founded in 1983, is a co-educational day school and a member of the ISA. (Independent Schools Association). It is situated in pleasant grounds in the village of Somersham – within easy access of Cambridge and Huntingdon.
The school is a secure site, consisting of the main house, 18th century coach house, covered swimming pool, play areas, games field and separate library building with a computerised lending system.
We offer a broad and challenging curriculum, with priority given to the teaching of English, mathematics and science. ICT skills are taught during weekly lessons and applied across the curriculum. French is taught from Year 3, providing all children with a good experience of a second language.
Pupils are assessed regularly throughout the school year, both formally and informally, and key stage SATs are completed. Whitehall prepares children well for transfer to independent and state secondary schools, and has a good record of Scholarships. Parents receive regular updates of their children’s progress via termly reports and twice yearly consultation evenings.
Sport plays an important part in the daily life of the school. At Whitehall all pupils are encouraged to develop skills and enjoy physical exercise, culminating in annual sports days. Through regular fixtures with other schools, we aim to foster a healthy, competitive spirit.
Performing arts have a major role in the lives of all pupils at the school. Dance, drama and music are all taught within the curriculum and each child performs in regular productions. A number of pupils participate in local drama festivals held annually, as well as talent shows and concerts.
A wide range of extra-curricular activities is available each day. These include chess, computing, aerobics, poetry and music clubs.
Early-morning and late-stay facilities are available from for an additional charge.
The smaller than average class sizes (up to 16 children) mean that each child has the opportunity to develop their social, physical, creative and academic skills.
Our caring family atmosphere, high moral expectations and safe environment enable our pupils to develop their individual personalities, interests and potential to the full. We are very proud of our lively, successful and forward thinking school and we would be delighted to meet you and show you around.
