The Princess Helena College (PHC) is a dynamic school where you will find happy, successful, confident and responsible girls aged 11-18. We provide a vibrant, modern and challenging education whilst respecting and encouraging traditional values. Through our flexible approach and our unshakeable belief that every girl is an individual, we tailor the curriculum, extra-curricular activities and boarding opportunities to enable each girl to succeed.
ACADEMIC SUCCESS
PHC was established in 1820 as one of the first academic schools for girls. We have maintained this tradition of high academic standards by teaching girls a varied and stimulating curriculum in sets that rarely exceed 18. Our personal approach allows us to monitor individual progress and to develop teaching and learning strategies which will challenge, motivate and support each girl. Our examination results are excellent and they represent outstanding value added attainment. 98% of our girls choose to go to University. Most go on to their first-choice university, including Oxford and Cambridge, to study a variety of courses which are as individual as they are. We offer a wide range of academic subjects including Government & Politics, Latin, Media Studies and Psychology. Girls benefit from a wonderful learning environment with first rate accommodation and facilities. Our most recent developments include our new science centre, our refurbished learning resources centre and dining room, our three well-equipped ICT suites and our new Sixth Form study and recreational facilities.
A BROADER EDUCATION
We encourage each girl to grow in confidence, to look outward, to try new experiences and to think adventurously. PHC is particularly strong in Art & Design, Dance, Drama, Music and Speech & Drama and girls may enter examinations in all these areas. Girls compete or participate in a wide range of sports including lacrosse, netball, tennis, athletics, badminton, rounders, swimming and golf. Life is busy – there is an exciting array of extra-curricular activities and clubs. From photography to public speaking, from language club to life saving and from touch typing to trampolining, there is an activity for everyone. There is a very strong house system and girls leave as self-assured and reliable individuals having developed a wealth of skills, confidence, independence and compassion.
A FLEXIBLE APPROACH
PHC is a vibrant community made up of boarders and day girls. We offer full, weekly and flexible boarding. Most day girls choose to stay into the early evening, participating in supervised prep or one of the numerous after school activities. Our separate sixth form house provides an ideal environment in which girls can successfully prepare for University and beyond.
