Lochinver House is a unique establishment. Every good independent school boasts excellent facilities and small classes and the challenge in the current climate is to offer more than this. We have an adult/pupil ratio of 1:7. This means that all pupils can be given the extra help they need, whether they need stretching, further work on a particular area of weakness or assistance with a social issue. The work that we do pastorally within our tutor groups is supported by our drama-therapist and our school matron. This means that all issues can be dealt with immediately, the boys and their parents feel supported and our pupils can then move forward and make progress.
Boys are given every encouragement to take an active part in their education. We have a School Council, comprising members of Years 3 – 8, voted in by their peers, and an Anti-Bullying Council, with pupils from Years 4 – 8 as members. The ABC enjoy the responsibility that they have in helping the School deal with the very rare cases of bullying and unkind behaviour that every school experiences from time to time and to maintain a happy, thriving environment where there is always something to do and fresh challenges to overcome.
The boys come to Lochinver in the knowledge that they will be safe, that they really have the opportunity to contribute to their school and that there are clear rewards for good behaviour and good work. The small groups and systems of setting and streaming as the boys move up the School mean that children are always being set realistic targets and are working at a pace that suits them and challenges them without making unrealistic demands on them. Thrown into the melting pot is a diet of music, sport, drama, art, design technology and a wide range of extra-curricular activities which ensures that every child will thoroughly enjoy the adventure that is their journey through Lochinver House School. Every day presents a different challenge and the children rise to this with tremendous enthusiasm.
Parents are fully involved in their sons’ education and are encouraged to take an active role. The door is always open to you and we set great store but the partnership that exists between home and school because this is what ensures that every child gains the most benefit from their experience at Lochinver House. We look forward to meeting you.
