‘Provision for personal development, pastoral care and welfare are outstanding. Pupils leave as well-rounded individuals with high personal standards.’ ISI Report 2006
Polam Hall School provides boarding and day school facilities for girls aged from 4 to 16 with a co-educational Sixth Form. The school was founded in 1848 and stands in attractive parkland within 5 minutes' walk of Darlington town centre. The school is centrally located for all major means of transport, being close to the A1M, main North/South Railway line and Teesside International Airport.
Up to the age of 16 girls are taught in small classes where they are well known, encouraged to aim high and helped to achieve their goals. The school welcomes girls from a variety of backgrounds and of varying ability, confident that we can help each to achieve her potential. A broad, well balanced range of subjects is offered at every stage. An exciting range of visits and activities complements academic studies.
The Sixth Form offers excellent academic opportunities, independence, and the chance to take on posts of responsibility. The school’s academic strengths are confirmed by the high proportion of pupils securing University places of their choice and by the impressive range of courses and professions they go on to pursue. Polam Hall’s reputation for academic excellence is complemented by the wide range of opportunities the school affords for all-round development. Art, drama, music, PSHCE and sport are very strong in the school, and the creative, personal and social skills of our students are carefully nurtured.
‘Relationships between the boarding pupils and staff were friendly, positive and caring… boarding pupils spoke positively of their life at the school.’ CSCI Report 2006
Our Boarding team create a home from home where the girls’ education is further enhanced. Girls learn to accept individual strengths and weaknesses, to live together under one roof and enjoy each other’s company. Friendships are formed which last a lifetime. Girls can join the boarding community from the age of 8 on a full, weekly or flexi basis.
The two Inspection Reports highlighted above can be found on our web site and are a testament to the strengths of the school.
Open Days are held each October and January, with entrance examinations in late January or early February for September entry. However, girls can be admitted at other times, after interview with the Head. Visits to the school may be made at any time, subject to prior arrangement. A telephone call to +44 (0)1325 463383 is all that is necessary for us to send you a prospectus or for you to make an appointment to visit the school and meet the Head.
