Founded in 1512, Giggleswick School received its Royal Charter in 1553. In this century it has expanded to become one of the leading independent boarding and day schools in the North of England with a national and international reputation.
Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Giggleswick is a Christian foundation, providing co-education boarding and day schooling to pupils from 11 to 18 years.
The school offers some of the finest accommodation and teaching facilities in the United Kingdom and these combined with a staff/pupil ratio of 1:7 lead to excellent academic results.
A recent £3m development plan has provided the school with a new Dining Hall and a state of the art Library and Information Centre. The Science laboratories have been refurbished and a new Art School completed.
Most senior students have single study bedrooms within their boarding houses administered by house staff and a special personal tutor system. This provides a happy, safe and secure environment in which young people can mature and learn together.
Class sizes are small, under 20 in the lower school and often in single figures in the Sixth form. All pupils and staff make full use of modern Information Technology in the classroom. Most teachers live in the school and are available for out of class support.
In this beautiful rural setting Giggleswick complements its academic record with the provision of a full range of extra-curricular activities. All major sports are catered for and the School enjoys an enviable reputation for its high quality music and drama. The School has its own swimming pool, golf course, sports hall, floodlit synthetic pitch and a full provision of playing fields. There is also a Drama Studio and a purpose-built Music School.
