The Red Maids’ School and The Red Maids’ Junior School
‘The warm and friendly ethos that is achieved strongly supports pupils’ learning and personal development.’ ISI Inspection Report (Published January 2004)
Red Maids’ is a place where students can discover and develop their own abilities and strive for success whether this is academic, on the sports field, in the creative arts or in the practical technologies. Isabel Tobias, Headmistress, believes that every member of the school community is talented and valuable; her vision is to provide a broad and balanced education for women of the twenty first century.
Red Maids’ is friendly and purposeful. Intellectual curiosity, energy and enthusiasm are characteristic of pupils and teachers alike, so lessons are lively and challenging. This is reflected in excellent results which consistently place Red Maids’ in the first division of the league tables.
The school stands in 12 acres of beautiful grounds in Bristol, easily accessible from the city centre or motorway links. Its excellent facilities are all on site and include the latest technological provision in four ICT suites, the Performing Arts Centre, extensive games pitches and a new Sports Hall.
The exciting programme of development and investment in recent years has included the new Library which opened in September 2004, the astro-turf opened in September 2005 and the latest new equipment for the music technology suite. Development of the Sixth Form Centre has provided six new seminar and teaching rooms and further provision of dedicated ICT areas to support independent study.
This continues in 2007, in September the extended Junior School will open with outstanding new facilities that include a new Library amd ICT suite, a large and light filled art room and a big new hall where the school will continue to meet together regularly. In addition a major refurbishment of the Science Laboratories in the Senior School will begin in the summer of 2007.
Both schools enjoy an established and effective pastoral framework that creates a safe, supportive environment where individuals are known and valued. There is real collaboration between students and staff, creating an exciting range of opportunities to expand knowledge, develop initiative and enjoy activities both within and beyond the curriculum.
The Junior School is adjacent to the Red Maids’ grounds. The two schools benefit from the close working relationship with shared sporting facilities and a smooth and welcoming transition to the Senior School.Junior girls enjoy automatic entry to the Senior School (conditions apply).
Junior Red Maids are encouraged to be confident and outgoing. Learning is lively, challenging and fun offering many opportunities to experiment with ideas and develop new skills in a safe and supportive environment. All girls take a full and active part in the life of the school with a strong emphasis on shared responsibility for all in their community.
‘What I like most is that there’s something for everybody at Red Maids’. The children are valued as individuals.’
