Springfield School is an independent Christian school managed by Springfield Educational Trust and affiliated to Gate Church International, a Christian church in Dundee. Springfield is a family type school based on the truths and standards of the Bible, where we seek to develop the character, abilities and intellect of each pupil. We believe strongly in the family, supporting them in the challenging and rewarding task of bringing up children.
All our staff are fully qualified professionals. Along with the trustees, they are dedicated to creating an encouraging and positive atmosphere that will challenge and stimulate pupils to think for themselves, to explore, achieve and develop generosity of spirit and lifestyle.
Our curriculum is largely in line with the Scottish 5-14 guidelines. Each morning after a devotional time, classes follow the core curriculum of numeracy and language. A whole school assembly is held once a week where pupils are encouraged to contribute in creative ways. Afternoons are occupied with Environmental Studies, Christian Education, French, Expressive Arts and ICT.
We also have pre-school provision for children aged 3-5. During the early years we focus on early numeracy and language skills providing a good foundation for your child to build on. Partial funding can be applied for from Dundee City Council. The early years class is open throughout the school year with a maximum of 16 children.
The school is housed in a purpose-built primary school in the north west of the city of Dundee. Set in its own grounds, surrounded by grass and trees, it provides a pleasant and modern environment for pupils. There are two internal recreation areas equipped for small children’s play as well as large external playgrounds. A large gymnasium incorporates a stage for drama productions and there are two well-equipped art rooms with a pottery.
The cosmopolitan city of Dundee has two universities, a world-renowned medical school based at Ninewells Hospital and various research centres. The school has benefited from this, drawing on contacts with the international community within the city, to broaden the pupils’ horizons, enabling them to learn from, and interact with, people from other cultures. We use the expertise of those trained in specialist subjects on a regular basis and also to complement and add interest to specific projects. Parental input and also input from those of diverse cultural backgrounds is sought and welcomed, in order to enable children to comprehend society’s increasingly global mindset.
