Silverhill School is a co-educational, non-denominational, independent day school for pupils aged 2½ – 11 years. It opened in 1947 and moved to its present site in order to offer a full range of educational activities.
The school was inspected by Ofsted in November 2003, who reported: ‘This is a successful school which has many significant strengths. It helps children to progress very well and achieve high standards.’
The children thrive in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust with their teachers, who make the learning process enjoyable and stimulating. Teachers encourage the children to explore new ideas and to broaden their horizons in all areas of life so that they may grow in self-confidence and become well-rounded individuals with a love for learning.
The curriculum is broad and challenging. It follows, in outline, the national requirements for the early years, KS1 and KS2. With small classes, it is possible to ensure that the needs of each child are fully met so that they can progress at their own pace and explore their capacity to the full. We have a strong tradition in French and have introduced Latin and Greek Mythology to certain classes. The children are also encouraged to participate in the many sporting activities on offer.
There are opportunities to explore Music, Art, Cookery, IT, Speech and Drama.
Silverhill Day Nursery provides an excellent start to the children’s education, and offers extended day care and a holiday play scheme. It promises to you and your child wrap-around care from 8.0am to 6.0pm five days a week every term with experienced and qualified staff. Fresh lunches are cooked every day.
At Silverhill School importance is of course given to academic progress, and we are able to give a great deal of individual attention to each child. We also believe that children need to develop self-confidence and self-discipline, and to learn good manners and consideration for others. This is a caring environment in which children flourish.
We would love you to visit our website to discover more, but more than that we really look forward to showing you round the school and meeting our children, in whom we are very proud.
Best wishes,
Julian & Jenifer Capper – new principals
