Founded in 1850 and set in its own village amidst unspoilt Berkshire countryside, Bradfield College enjoys a well-established reputation for being one of the country’s leading co-educational, independent boarding schools through its provision of academic excellence and outstanding pastoral care.
To this winning formula can be added the unique Bradfield blend of excellence and breadth in extra-curricular activities, the College's vision of developing the personal skills young people need for the challenges of the 21st century. On the personal front, besides delivering the ethos aim of the College ("to inspire our pupils to become confident, contributing and caring members of the new global community"), I am determined that our community remains outward-looking, open-minded and creative in its approach to all things, both academic and extra-curricular.
The pupil body numbers approximately 700, comprising 460 boys and 240 girls from 13 to 18 years of age, and we welcome pupils from both Britain and overseas.
The College provides challenge and choice for all its pupils through a personalised programme of study that is inspired by expert, passionate and engaging teaching. We offer a generous range of options at GCSE and A Level and every year welcome a substantial number of boys and girls into our vibrant Sixth Form. Here, an increasingly adult approach is taken and each pupil receives the dedicated support of a personal tutor to guide and support them in their academic studies.
Outside the classroom, Bradfield offers an unrivalled extra-curricular programme. Over 200 different teams, clubs, groups, societies and activities are available ranging from sports and drama to music and artistic pursuits, not to mention seminars, lectures, films, concerts and much more. The College also encourages a wide range of trips, both subject-based and extra-curricular, which take place regularly throughout the year to locations as far afield as mainland Europe, South Africa, the Far East and the USA.
We also offer the highest standards of accommodation and all pupils enjoy excellent facilities within the boarding houses which provide a natural extension of family life at home. Within each boarding house, a dedicated team of Housemaster/Housemistress, Matron and Tutors are responsible for looking after each pupil during their time at the College.
In essence, we seek to encourage leadership, and to nurture boys and girls to become confident, caring and contributing citizens in the modern world. By affording our pupils the opportunity to explore their inner selves - so that they derive a sense of personal worth - Bradfield develops young men and women who serve the common good, both within the College community and in wider society. These values remain with them for life.
I warmly invite you to visit the College and to experience for yourself what makes Bradfield special. Further details are available at www.bradfieldcollege.org.uk.
