St Joseph's Convent School is an independent day school for girls aged 3-18 and boys aged 3-7, situated close to Reading University and convenient to the town centre and the M4.
The school was founded over 100 years ago and is open to girls of all denominations and faiths. St Joseph's achieves academic excellence in a caring and vibrant Christian community in which individual talents are recognised and developed. Dedicated staff enable girls to leave St Joseph's confident, successful and capable of responding to the challenges of the modern world.
The Preparatory Department is housed in a purpose built complex, designed with the needs of small children in mind, which is adjacent to the Senior Department campus. Its proximity to the Senior Department enables resources to be shared, such as the Information Technology Suite and the indoor swimming pool. Classrooms and laboratories throughout the school are well equipped and within the grounds there is a full range of outdoor sporting facilities.
Academic standards are high and nearly all the Sixth Formers go on to higher education.
Artistic talent and practical skills are encouraged at all ages. Original and exciting work is produced in Art/Textiles, in CDT and Food Technology.
The school has a strong music and drama tradition. There are various orchestras, musical groups and choirs. The girls regularly give concerts and there are many opportunities to take part in drama, dance and debating.
Sport is an important part of life at St Joseph's. A full range of activities, from athletics and swimming to team games, is offered. Girls are regularly chosen to represent their county in athletics, swimming, tennis and hockey.
Admission to the Preparatory Department is by interview and assessment. Entry to the Senior Department is by examination and interview. Examinations are held in January for entry into Years 7 and 9 the following September.
St Joseph's offers a safe and happy environment in which academic and social skills, individual talent and consideration of the needs of others are developed. If this is the type of school you are looking for, why not arrange a visit to see the school in action.
