A Word from the Head

Stanbridge Earls is situated in 46 acres of beautiful woods and lakes. It was established in 1952 as a school around an old manor house and is an alternative to the large Public School. It selects pupils who have ability but who are not realising their full potential. Class sizes are small and it is possible to study all normal curriculum subjects, but there is also a greater range and variety than in most small schools. Great care is taken over encouraging success and there is an emphasis on praising achievements at all levels. Facilities are excellent on both the academic and sporting fronts. Inter-school matches are organised in rugby, cricket, hockey, basketball. Archery, sailing, golf and athletics are also available. Since the early 1960s there has been help for the dyslexic pupil and there are now 21 specialist staff working in a custom-built centre. There is a whole school approach to helping the dyslexic pupil, for which the school enjoys an international reputation of excellence. There are also smaller units giving help with maths, speech and communications difficulties, English as a second language and occupational therapy. A full range of GCSEs and A levels is offered. It is also possible for those who have found the academic side more demanding to do a mixture of retakes, mature GCSEs, City and Guilds exams and AVCE's in Sport and Recreation and Travel and Tourism.

The school is currently in the middle of a major redevelopment project including an extension to the girls accommodation, a new CDT workshop, a classroom block, music school, 6th form club and an ICT Suite.

ALUMNI Marc Sinden (Actor); Christopher Neame (Actor/Producer); Charles Vincent (Commodity Broker - Copper); Marquis of Granby (Antiques); Lucas White (Polo Player); Guy Ritchie (Film Director).
