Grateley House School is a 38 week residential and day school for up to 47 students aged 11-19 with a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome and associated conditions. The school is located in the village of Grateley, near Andover in Hampshire. The main school building is a large country house, set in 8 acres of grounds, with additional education and residential premises on the site.
Our objectives are for every one of our students to leave us better able to understand and take part in their community, wherever that may be. Our environment is specifically geared to meet the needs of these young and developing people through specialist approaches and staff expertise. Therapy support and appropriate educational programmes take account of Asperger learning styles and individualised plans are designed to meet specific need. These plans form the basis of the three-way partnership between student, school and family. Our prospectus can be downloaded from our website.
The Cambian philosophy encompasses a multi-disciplinary holistic and therapeutic approach to our students and their difficulties: we believe in non-aversive positive contact; we do not believe in punishment in any form. However, all schools and colleges will have their own codes of conduct for students, where the equal rights, no-bullying ethos of the school or college, and the need to follow ‘The Rules’ for the safety and comfort of all, will be strongly emphasised.
All staff employed are subject to enhanced Disclosure by the Criminal Records Bureau and Cambian has a comprehensive Child and Adult Protection Policy that all staff are fully aware of. The Cambian staff training programme means that all staff undergo initial induction and foundation training in the difficulties that our students face on a daily basis, and continuing staff development requires this training to be built on regularly.
For full details of our educational, residential and leisure resources, our clinical and therapeutic approaches, our strategies for behaviour enhancement, social skills, life and daily-living skills programmes , please visit our website and read our prospectus.
Grateley House School is a place to be different; it is not a secure site. Whilst we have the usual security keypads on the external doors, there are no locked gates at Grateley and the campus is large and open.
Our history:
We became a part of Cambian Education Services in September 2005, when, after 30 years of management by The Hesley Group, Grateley House School and six of its sister schools and colleges were purchased by Cambian Education. Our total commitment to high quality care and education for our students in all our schools and colleges is further extended by these recent changes.
Come and visit:
Nothing replaces a visit to get a ‘feel’ for a school or college and we invite parents and professionals to call our Freephone No – 0800 288 9779 - to come and see us at work and play. We are normally open for visits by appointment on Thursday mornings, 10 am – 12 noon.
