The d’Overbroeck’s Sixth Form specialises in AS and A Levels. We have over 200 students studying with us. Approximately half are boarding, and half live in the local area.
After GCSEs many students are looking for a different type of environment to school and we provide an invaluable stepping-stone to university. We are co-educational, we teach in small classes (maximum 10 in a group) and provide a very high level of pastoral support. Every student has a Director of Studies to advise them throughout their time with us including university applications. Our teachers are A level specialists and skilled communicators as well as subject experts.
d’Overbroeck’s provides students with tremendous opportunities at sixth form, offering new subjects (there are nearly 40 to choose from in almost any combination), new teaching approaches and new activities. By treating each student as an individual and by encouraging, guiding and working closely with them, we get the best out of each person. Nearly all the students studying with us join us for sixth form from other schools, creating a freshness and dynamic feel to the College. We have a fascinating mix of skills, talents and interests that combine to create a stimulating and enriching learning environment. The fact that we are a dedicated Independent Sixth Form means we can create an environment that is appropriate to this age group, which encourages curiosity, rewards effort and endeavour and builds confidence.
The results are outstanding, with 55% of our A level entries gaining a grade A last summer, 29% of students gaining A grades in all of their subjects and 11% of our Upper Sixth students taking up places at Oxford University and Cambridge University in September 2006. As well as their studies, students can participate in a number of sports, music, arts and extra-curricular activities that contribute to a fulfilling sixth form experience. Around 30 extra-curricular activities are available each week. By giving students greater independence and helping make sure they use it productively, by helping students realise and use their talents to the full, by supporting them throughout and by teaching them well, we provide students with the skills they need for university and beyond.
Oxford is a truly student-oriented city with plenty of activities, both social and cultural. It is a beautiful and safe city in which to study, providing an historic but modern environment in which to learn.
