The Manor Preparatory School is an IAPS day school for girls aged 3 to 11 and boys aged 3 to 7. Architect designed award-winning classrooms have been built round an 18th century manor house and farm buildings. Fifteen acres of ground provide the children with ideal playing space.
The aim of the school is to create a happy, stimulating atmosphere in which every child can develop to the full.
A well-qualified staff teach a full range of subjects. Boys are prepared for entry to preparatory schools and girls for the Common Entrance Examination or for entrance examinations to local secondary schools. ‘The commitment of time and energy which staff make to the school is a major contribution to its success.’ (ISC Inspection Report 2005)
The curriculum is broad. Science, Information Communication Technology, Art, Design Technology, Music, Physical Education and Modern Languages are all taught by specialists. All subjects have specialist teaching in the final two years of the preparatory department.
Computers are used throughout the school and there are three networked computer suites.
There are two school orchestras, 4 choirs, 5 chamber groups and a jazz band. It is possible to learn almost any musical instrument as an optional extra.
Enthusiastic games teaching includes swimming throughout the year and skilled coaching in netball, football, tennis, mini-tennis, athletics and other summer sports. Teams represent the school in all the above sports. The school has received the ‘Gold Activemark’ award from Sport England (in association with the DfES) for its ‘commitment to promoting the benefits of physical activity and sport’.
As an optional extra supervised after-school sessions run on five afternoons a week from 4.00 - 5.30pm. Children are given tea before working or playing quietly and enjoying organised activities. There is also a range of after school clubs the children can join. We offer a free ‘Early Bird’ Club where children can be dropped off at school at 8.00am. We also run sessions for pre-nursery children (2 - 3 years) ‘Manor Minnows’, and a mother and child (babies – 2 years) ‘Minimum’s Club’.
Bus transport is arranged for pupils travelling from surrounding areas.
The school promotes close co-operation between parents and teachers. Parents' Evenings are a regular feature. 'The Friends of The Manor' is an association run by parents to welcome new families and to support the school.
As a parent of a Year 6 leaver said ‘I can’t imagine life without The Manor’. Why not give us a ring on 01235 858462 to organise a visit. We’d love to see you.
