A Word from the Head

The Prep School stands on a magnificent wooded campus extending to over 100 acres, which it shares with the Royal Russell Senior School (11-18 years). (See Royal Russell School entry.)

The school is well served by road, tram and rail links and is one of the few co-educational schools in South London.

There is a fully qualified teaching staff of 24, and the Headmaster is a member of IAPS.

The school has a broad curriculum which seeks to blend the highest standards of academic work with a wide range of extra-curricular activities. There are opportunities for all pupils to participate in soccer, netball, hockey, basketball, cross-country and cricket as team sports, and as individuals to be coached in athletics, gymnastics, swimming, trampolining, dance, judo, badminton, tennis and table tennis. There is an extensive fixture list of matches against other schools.

Artistic development extends to include full dramatic and musical productions, the Prep School Hall boasting excellent stage facilities. The Prep School Music Centre has seven teaching rooms and the Head of Music is supported by twelve instrumental specialists. Every five year old pupil learns a musical instrument provided by the school and a large proportion of the pupils learns musical instruments. There is an extensive range of chamber groups including a full orchestra, string quartet and jazz band. Pupils achieve outstanding results in the Associated Board Music Examinations and at local Music Festivals.
All forms of art, design and technology are actively encouraged.

There are excellent carpeted classrooms which are complemented by two Assembly Halls, a new Sports Hall and Gymnasium complex, Art Rooms, Computer Suite and School Chapel. An indoor swimming pool was opened recently, and offers a 25m main pool, learner pool and function room. All Prep School pupils receive weekly swimming lessons from qualified instructors.

The majority of the pupils join the school at 3+ or 7+ and are prepared for transfer to the Senior School at 11+. Candidates for entry to the Pre-Prep are interviewed informally, whilst all other entrants sit examinations in English and Mathematics appropriate to their ages.

Prospective parents are very welcome to come and meet the Headmaster and to tour the school, and should telephone 020 8651 5884 for a prospectus in the first instance.

Royal Russell Prep School has a large car park which may be accessed from Coombe Lane.

The nearest Tramlink stop is COOMBE LANE which is opposite the main entrance to the school.
No.3 Trams from central Croydon and Addington travel to the school every 7 minutes.
Passengers from Wimbledon and Beckenham should change at SANDILANDS.
