A Word from the Head

Set in 27 acres of beautiful countryside, yet only three miles south of Guildford, St Catherine’s is one of the UK's premier independent schools. The comments of the Independent School Inspectors speak for themselves: ‘Educational provision, in the full sense of those words, is outstanding because, above all, St Catherine’s is a learning school in which a state of satisfaction with anything but the best is not on the agenda.'

St Catherine’s offers a unique blend of high academic standards, a strong house system and a caring ethos, which pervades the whole community. In 2007 94.4% of A Level candidates passed at A/B level and at GCSE there was a 95% pass rate at A*/B. However, there is more to St Catherine’s than outstanding examination results.

The Music Department offers a huge range of instrumental tuition and all musical tastes are catered for with numerous orchestras, ensembles, and choirs. The variety of Art on offer is vibrant and exciting, the quality of the work produced outstanding. St Catherine’s pupils take part in sports at local, regional and national level. Drama is another hugely popular subject. Girls have performed at the Edinburgh Festival and gone on to RADA.

St Catherine’s not only nurtures the individual but is also aware that the School is a community and the house system ensures that girls feel a sense of belonging, forging life-long friendships where loyalties to the School and each other are strong.

Another very attractive and increasingly popular feature of St Catherine’s is flexible boarding. Easily accessible from Heathrow and Gatwick we are an ideal choice for London parents. Weekly boarders find they can participate in the many after-school activities and also complete their prep without the daily commute; full boarders enjoy a wide range of weekend activities in an intimate and friendly atmosphere.

The Prep School is housed in a listed building adjacent to the Senior School and pupils share many of the senior school facilities. There is a strong sense of fun, values, high standards of courtesy and behaviour and excellent academic results. The Prep School prepares girls for entrance exams to all the major independent schools, including St Catherine’s Senior School itself.
