We are the longest established provider of the International Baccalaureate Diploma in England with a mission to advance international education and understanding. The IB Diploma is a two year course giving access to fine universities all over the world. Our students regularly win places at Oxford, Cambridge, LSE and other leading UK Universities as well as Harvard, Yale and Stanford in the USA. We also offer a Pre-IB course for students who are not ready to embark on the Diploma programme.
We are a co-educational day and boarding college occupying substantial premises in the elegant residential area of North Oxford. Around 40 different nationalities are represented of which about 20% are from Britain. The atmosphere at the college is informal and friendly encouraging personal responsibility and international friendships. Our students live in comfortable college houses under the care of a resident warden and all meals are served in the college dining room. There is also a student coffee bar, The Sugar House, which provides snacks at lunchtime and in the evening.
IB students choose six academic subjects including modern languages, science, mathematics and humanities. They also complete a research project, follow a course in critical thinking and take part in extra-curricular activities. The final mark is an average of performance in each subject. The maximum score on the IB is 45 points. The new UCAS tariff equates an IB score of 45 to six and a half A grades at A level. In 2006 our average score was 33.5 points which equates to 4 A grades at A level.
Each of our students is assigned a personal tutor who oversees welfare and progress at regular, individual weekly meetings. Our teachers are selected for their strong academic backgrounds and IB teaching experience. Many are involved in IB curriculum development and examining. We regularly assist schools who are introducing the IB and run teacher training workshops for teachers from around the world.
We provide an extensive programme of social, cultural, service and sporting activities and our students are encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities that Oxford provides. Apart from more traditional sports, our activities staff organise regular overseas trips as well as activities nearer home such as climbing in Wales, canoeing in Scotland and the popular Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Acceptance is on the basis of academic results, school reports and an interview. Scholarships are available. Almost all our students proceed to higher education in Britain or elsewhere in the world. Our two highly qualified, full time Academic Advisers help all students with university choice, application and interview skills as well as providing comprehensive careers advice.
