Baston School for girls is a busy, happy community and whilst developments are constantly taking place, the school retains the best of traditional ways and values. The school is situated on the southern outskirts of Bromley in 14 acres of ground.
Baston continues to achieve high academic standards from a broad ability intake. Indeed, we were one of the top schools for ‘value added’ pupil progress for the third consecutive year. The school aims to enable each girl to develop her personality and capabilities to the full and to enjoy the whole education process. Baston is large enough to be able to offer a wide range of academic subjects as well as musical and sporting activities, but small enough to be able to cater for the individual needs of every pupil. The progress of each child is carefully monitored through a system of regular testing, termly reports, Parents’ Evenings and annual assessments.
Baston School’s Early Years Department offers a happy and stimulating environment enabling sound training and grounding to be given. It has its own playing field with adventure trail and slide. The two/three-year-olds in Upper and Lower Kindergarten are given an informal welcome to school life where some of the basic skills are introduced and developed. The four-year-old girls in the Reception class work a full and more structured school day and are given a sound foundation preparing them for a smooth transition into the Junior School.
Baston’s Junior School fulfils all National Curriculum requirements but we aim to offer far more. Whilst a high priority is given to the learning of basic English and Mathematics skills, the girls enjoy a balanced, rich curriculum preparing them for Key Stage Tests in Years 2 and 6. The dyslexia unit helps girls with special needs.
Transition into the Senior School is natural and achieved with the minimum of anxiety.
Throughout the school girls are encouraged to join the Clubs which include Gym, Netball, Tennis, Drama, Cookery, Pet Protectors’, ICT, DT, Science, Wildlife and Gardening. Group lessons in Speech and Drama are available from Year 4 upwards where girls are prepared for entry into the local festivals.
By choosing Baston, parents can be confident that they are assuring their daughter’s future. The Headmistress is happy to meet prospective parents personally, or parents can attend any one of the regular Open Days and meet the staff and see the facilities available.
