A Word from the Head

A warm welcome to Orchard School

Orchard School was established in 1992 to meet the educational and social needs of young people with severe Autistic Spectrum disorders, learning difficulties and challenging behaviour.

We work with students aged 11-19 years old and offer 52 week full residential care in our onsite registered childrens home.

Education at Orchard School is provided in an onsite purpose built setting. All students are carefully assessed and their education is delivered via individual programmes which focus on their holistic needs and preferences.

We are committed to offer each pupil an individual programme to meet their needs and provide opportunities, experiences, teaching and therapies that will deliver an education of the highest standards.
•A 24 hour curriculum is developed to meet the needs of each pupil
•We offer a variety of teaching methods and styles to ensure we match our pupils preferred way of learning
•We create stimulating and interesting environments to enhance the opportunities and experiences for our pupils
•We enjoy and celebrate our pupils achievements and successes
•We value our students as individuals and strive to foster mutual respect, empathy and understanding
•We develop our pupils self esteem and self worth
•We encourage our students to develop skills that will prepare them for adult life.

To ensure that learning is appropriate and successful students are supported on either a 1:1 basis or in small groups, depending on needs. Orchard School is a registered ASDAN centre and pupils have the opportunity to receive accreditation.

Each pupil has an individual care plan, which is developed by senior staff and Keyworkers in consultation with parents, social workers and where possible the pupil themselves. This covers areas such as health, religious beliefs, areas of concern like and dislikes, skill levels and attainment targets. Care pans enable us to ensure that all aspects of our student’s welfare and social needs are being addressed.

We have two residential buildings. The main house accommodates for up to five boys or girls. The Cottage can accommodate 5 students working towards semi-independent living.

We aim to provide a positive caring environment that promotes the development of the whole person and both the house and cottage provide a home like atmosphere where pupils can relax and enjoy their leisure time. Emphasis is given to social and life skills, recreation and leisure skills, group work and community involvement.
