King's Preparatory School (CSA/IAPS) is an integral part of King's School, Rochester which was founded in 604 AD by St Justus, the first Bishop of Rochester.
The Preparatory School, which is co-educational, is sited overlooking the Paddock Playing Field. The building houses 12 classrooms, 2 Science Laboratories, a Library on two levels, an IT Suite and a Language Laboratory. There are 215 pupils, and 3 boarding pupils. Boarding is available from 11+ only.
There has been considerable upgrading of the King's School's facilities in recent years and these facilities are available to pupils from the three parts of the School. A 25 metre heated indoor swimming pool, a language laboratory, a sports hall, a purpose built Pre-preparatory School and a new dining room have all been completed in recent years.
King’s Preparatory pupils gain entry to our Senior School through our own internal examination. External candidates sit the Common Entrance or the King’s entrance tests.
The Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose choristers we educate, is at the centre of our life and the School seeks to educate its pupils in a Christian atmosphere, holding true to the tenets of that faith.
Our pupils are able to participate in most of the major sports and take full advantage of the strong tradition in music and drama.
Entrance to the Preparatory School is by way of an examination in English, Mathematics, Verbal or Non-verbal Reasoning. In addition to this there is an interview with the Headmaster.
