Walk through the historic arch at St Lawrence College in Kent and you will immediately feel at home. The school welcomes students from all over the world and is a happy and caring international community. Recently modernised rooms and dormitories provide some of the best boarding accommodation in the country.
Outstanding results are achieved by the most academic students who progress to many of the top universities. The school is also highly regarded as a centre of excellence for ‘value added’: students who need additional support perform well beyond expectation.
The school has stunningly beautiful surroundings and outstanding sports facilities. The buildings reflect the nature of the school: steeped in history and tradition, yet modern, creative and forward-thinking. The main building has a striking 19th Century façade dating back to 1884 which sits alongside the glorious Chapel which was completed in 1927. Kirby House, opened in January 2007, accommodates our 11 - 13 year olds in modern 5 bedded dormitories with en-suite facilities. It is an imaginative design: architecturally striking, with a glass atrium and a virtual library at its centre. Throughout the school the lively, professional approach to education and an innovative curriculum provide a challenging and stimulating framework for teaching and learning, but most of all, the school really takes care of its pupils.
At St Lawrence College our aim is to encourage a real intellectual curiosity about life; an understanding that it is often in the service and support of others that we find most personal satisfaction and that there is more to life than the facts of the matter. This approach, growing out of deep Christian roots, produces a particular atmosphere within our school. It is enhanced by the size of the community which allows every pupil to be known personally by the staff. The exciting mixture of local children from the South East of England, sharing their education with others from all around the world, in a co-educational setting produces a hopeful vision for the future.
The school is close to the Channel Tunnel and the port of Dover, has excellent transport links to London and Europe and within an hour and a half of Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Selecting a school can be one of the most important decisions we have to make and we therefore encourage parents and prospective pupils to visit the school if at all possible and to ask the following question. Are these pupils the kind of role models, companions and possibly life-long friends that I would like for my child? I am confident that you will say ‘yes’. The school is justifiably proud that St Lawrence students leave as confident, compassionate and capable adults.
