Welcome to Wellesley House where we are justifiably proud of our reputation as a successful, family run, boarding and day prep school for boys and girls. At Wellesley we work together to give your children the best possible start in life and prepare them for the world beyond. Academic success is a priority and our results are excellent, but foremost in our thinking is to ensure that our pupils are busy, happy and proud of their school. From this everything else follows naturally. The vast majority of our pupils board so we are able to create the ideal environment to monitor their development both in and out of the classroom.
According to a recent inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, Wellesley House “is successful in its aim to provide an education which seeks ‘to open up a world of possibilities’” and where the quality of pastoral care is “outstanding”. The inspectors reported on the “broad, varied and interesting educational experience” provided at the school and made positive comment on the enrichment of pupils’ education by the “quality and quantity” of extra-curricular activities.
One of the main strengths identified by the inspection team was the relations amongst pupils and between pupils and adults which were described as “remarkable and exemplary”. They found the school was “particularly successful in its aim to provide a family atmosphere”, a comment which I think is important in the learning environment: children are most likely to fulfil their potential both in and out of the classroom if they feel valued. The fact that the pupils at Wellesley achieve so much is very largely due to the support they get from the staff and each other.

Our primary aim is to prepare our pupils for entry to their senior schools via Common Entrance or scholarship examinations and to equip them with the confidence and motivation to flourish in their new environment. Our academic reputation is excellent and Wellesley pupils gain entry to a variety of prestigious schools, many with scholarships. In the last five years pupils have gone on to: Benenden, Eton, Harrow, King’s Canterbury, Radley, Stowe and Tonbridge among others.
I hope all of this has inspired you to pick up the telephone and make an appointment to visit us and see the school in action. I would be delighted to show you around and I look forward to welcoming you to Wellesley House.
