Stratford Lodge is a 38-week (termly) residential post 16 community offering supported education and guidance to approximately nine students (male and female) aged between 16 and 19 who have Asperger Syndrome (AS), ADHD, Tourette's Syndrome and similar conditions. Stratford Lodge is the post 16 extension of Grateley House School.
We have developed a programme specifically for older students who have AS and associated difficulties. All students who attend Stratford Lodge have received a multi-disciplinary assessment under the requirements of the 1996 Education Act and are the subject of a Statement of Special Need, issued by their own local education authority.
Stratford Lodge was set up to offer further educational opportunities, beyond Key Stage 4, for students unable to access mainstream education independently after completion of their compulsory schooling. The programme offers a range of individually tailored courses and activities including access to college basic skills, travel training, community awareness, essential living skills, work experience and sport and leisure. Our aim is to enable students to access a local college to gain nationally recognised qualifications. At the same time we encourage them to become more independent, taking greater responsibility for their own actions and decisions. We aim to prepare students for adulthood, by giving them the confidence they were perhaps lacking prior to joining us.
