Ardingly College Prep School was established in 1912. It is the central part of the College which caters for children from 2.5 to 18 years old. We aim to develop the whole child and value communication skills, flexibility and initiative.
We offer both day and weekly boarding places and many pupils take advantage of flexi-boarding.
Children are cared for by Form tutors, House Convenors and live-in boarding staff. There is a strong pastoral care system with an emphasis on positively rewarding good behaviour, effort and attainment. The team of staff is caring and forward-looking.
Classes are generally to a maximum of 18 pupils. Prep is done at school.
Musical facilities are shared with the Senior School and a child may learn any musical instrument. There are choirs and orchestras as well as other specialised musical groups. Drama and Art are also very strong.
Playing fields, swimming pool, squash and tennis courts are also shared with the Senior School. There are daily opportunities to take part in sports. We are an Activemark Gold School (awarded by Sport England) with well-qualified staff delivering a broad and inclusive physical education programme.
Various activities take place between 6.30 and 7.30 pm, to which day pupils may stay and the majority of these are at no extra cost.
There is a wide-ranging curriculum with a second foreign language for the higher achievers. Drama, Music, DT and ICT are timetabled.
There are various posts of responsibility for mature pupils.
The College has its own Chaplain and a beautiful Chapel. Christian values are promoted and Chapel and Religious Education are in accordance with the Church of England but members of other churches and faiths are accepted.
Most pupils go on to the Senior School. All pupils sit Common Entrance or Scholarship examinations.
