Welcome to Greenfields School. In a pastoral setting on the edge of the Ashdown Forest within our own eleven acres of woodland, Greenfields provides a complete and unique education preparing each student for life in society.
Founded in 1981, the aim of Greenfields is to provide an environment where educational results can be achieved by children of all abilities, and from all cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds. Here they can develop high standards of integrity with confidence in themselves and respect for others.
We provide a friendly, caring and safe environment and small classes where students can grow in confidence and become able individuals. A key factor in our success is our method of study, which ensures that children really understand and can therefore use the information studied.
With small classes and attention to each individual child’s needs, we excel in setting students on their chosen paths. While in school and after we expect them to take an active part in life, endeavour to change conditions for the better and set a good example.
As our academics are based on the National Curriculum, we offer the same subjects as most private schools. Like many small private schools we provide a friendly, family atmosphere. Our students and graduates routinely achieve very creditable grades, as do students from many schools. So what do we do and what do we have at Greenfields that makes such a difference?
We do not use ‘authoritarian’ teaching methods cramming the student full of memorised and un-inspected data so they can pass exams.
After teaching students how to study, we do teach the fundamentals of a subject, teach the student to inspect the information, see how it applies or can apply in their lives and what use it is now and may be in their future, and what information or applications can they derive or evolve from that information.
How our students accomplish this understanding is fully addressed in various handbooks and materials available to students and parents. We educate children from a basic concept that every student is an individual, they want to learn and are capable of learning, and they want to be successful. We give them the means to do so, try to nurture their native ambitions and abilities, and instill in them the confidence to stand as individuals.
The very successful Montessori method of education is fully employed at the foundation level of the school and on into the reception classes. Children learn the basics of the 3R's using the well-known Montessory equipment and materials and study a curriculum that is broad, yet designed to prepare children for life. It is an excellent start to a child's education.
