The Algarve is a wonderful place to live and to bring up children. There is also a long-established International School to provide the best in education for all your needs.

The International School of the Algarve was founded in 1972 and has been providing a quality education through the medium of English to the international community of the Algarve for more than 37 years.

In the International Section there is a Primary School (4 to 10 years) and Secondary School (11 to 18 years). Pupils prepare for UK GCSEs at age 16 and academic and applied A levels at 17 and 18 years old. The teaching staff are all qualified and experienced.

Pupils are from about 26 different nationalities. They go on to schools and universities around the world. There is support when needed from an English as a Foreign Language Department as well as from a Special Educational Needs Department.

The School occupies a nine-hectare site on the main East-West coast road in the central Algarve, approximately 30 minutes from Faro International Airport. The School's own Bus Service is a safe and convenient network covering all areas of the Algarve.

The School has been purpose-built and, as well as spacious facilities for football, athletics and basketball, includes 2 self-contained Kindergarten units, 37 classrooms, a gymnasium/assembly hall, 4 Art rooms, 2 Music rooms, 4 Science Laboratories, 3 Computer rooms, a Design Technology Workshop, kitchens and dining rooms.

As well as covering all academic curriculum areas a great deal of energy and enthusiasm go into school plays, musical concerts and art projects. There are a wide range of educational visits and an after-school club provides sporting, adventure and academic support activities. Team sport is well-developed, the pupils having opportunities to compete on a regular basis against teams from other schools.

The School Year runs from September to June with breaks of about two weeks at Christmas and Easter, plus Portuguese national holidays.

Please contact the Headmaster, John Butterworth, if you would like a prospectus to be posted or e-mailed to you. When you are ready to see the School he, or the Head of Primary, Pennie Best, would be delighted to meet you and to show you around.
