A Word from the Head

Founded in 1966, Munich International School (MIS) is a nonprofit, co-educational day-school serving students from Early Childhood (ages 4 and 5) through Grade 12. More than 1,260 students represent around fifty nationalities at MIS. The 26-acre MIS campus lies near scenic Lake Starnberg, 12 miles south of Munich. School buses serve the cities of Munich and Starnberg and the surrounding region.

As an exemplary English language, IB World School, MIS inspires students to be interculturally aware and achieve their potential within a stimulating and caring learning environment. The curriculum follows the framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), which culminate in the final two years with the International Baccalaureate Diploma. The IBMYP overarches the two-year International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Programme in Grades 9 and 10. MIS graduates attend some of the finest colleges and universities in the world, including Brown, Cambridge, Columbia, Georgetown, Harvard, The London School of Economics, MIT, Oxford, Princeton and Yale.

MIS offers competitive and non-competitive sports with numerous teams contending in renowned international sports tournaments. A variety of activities in the fine arts, ranging from painting, drawing and ceramics to handicrafts, drama and dance are offered after school. There are several school choirs, bands and orchestral groups. Students participate in the International School Theatre Festival, the Speech and Debate Team, Mathematics contests and other prestigious international school events.

MIS students are encouraged to be independent thinkers and to accept and appreciate the validity of other people's perspectives and cultures.
