If you are looking for a thriving, buzzy, place with a warm and happy atmosphere and impressive academic standards then come and visit Sherborne Prep School. Over the past 5 years prep pupils have won 84 awards out of 200 leavers!
Described by the Good Schools Guide as a “characterful Prep marching to the beat of its own drum” and “Difficult to capture in words – Sherborne Prep looks traditional but thinks outside the box”. You will find the children at The Prep, relaxed, happy and inspired.
With its emphasis on independent learning and breadth of curriculum, The Prep offers a wide-ranging education that instils a hunger to learn and answers the cries of universities calling out for more imaginative and creative pupils who have been taught to think and work independently.
The Prep’s boarding provision has changed significantly in recent years. While not a large boarding school, boarding remains at the heart of The Prep, in ethos and in practice. The children in the boarding houses are the envy of many day pupils who look forward to making use of the flexible boarding on offer, as well as being favoured by parents of full and weekly boarders who want their children to be in a warm, friendly family atmosphere.
The school has recently introduced an exciting Saturday morning activities’ programme that includes classes in Mandarin, French, German and Spanish (four of the five languages we offer at the school) for pupils, parents and members of the local community. Children are energetic, enthusiastic and fun and the whole school hums. Our traditional fare of matches still occurs on Saturday afternoons while on Sundays, boarders have a weekly outing or activity.
The Pre-Prep is situated on the same site and forms a secure, self-contained unit within the School for three to six year-olds, which at the same time allows the younger children to take advantage of many of the facilities available to the Prep School children. It enjoys a well-deserved reputation as a Pre-Prep that offers a varied and exciting curriculum within a caring, friendly environment.
Since leaving the home environment is an important and exciting step in a young child’s life, the approach in the Nursery is to create a happy, settled atmosphere. As the children move through the school they are encouraged to think for themselves so they go into the main school with a measure of independence and a good foundation for future learning.
